Eindrücke von Disney On Ice - Mickey & Minnie's Magical Journey

Während meiner Planung für meinen 3. Disney-/USA-Urlaub für den November 2011 bemerkte ich eher zufällig, dass während meiner Fahrt von Florida nach Kalifornien ein Stück Disney-Zauber genau zur richtigen Zeit auf meinem Weg liegt. Disney On Ice machte in Houston, Texas Station. Da musste ich natürlich nicht zweimal überlegen und habe mir flugs via ticketmaster.com ein Ticket bestellt. Für die zweitvorderste Reihe mit Frontalsicht auf das Bühnenbild kostete das knapp über $100. Verkraftbar angesichts der Tatsache, dass Disney On Ice im 2012 nicht in der Deutschschweiz zu sehen ist. Wenn die nicht zu mir kommen, gehe ich halt selbst hin.
Stattgefunden hat das im Reliant Stadium, das Football-Stadion der Houston Texans aus der NFL. 70'000 Plätze hat die Halle, welche sogar über ein aufmachbares Dach verfügt. Die Ausmasse vor Ort waren als ganz und gar texanisch. Die grösste Arena inmitten eines gewaltig grossen Entertainment-Komplexes namens Reliant Park mit diversen weiteren kleineren Sportstätten und Ausstellungshallen. Da bleibt einem nichts anderes übrig, als sich vor Ankunft genau zu informieren, in welcher Halle das stattfindet, wo genau man die bestellten Tickets abholen muss und wo man parken muss. Es ist schon eindrücklich, welche Infrastrukturen in dem Land aus dem Boden gestampft werden. Gleich nördlich des Stadionkomplexes befindet sich übrigens das Texas Medical Center, so ziemlich das weltgrösste Krankenhaus, bestehend aus Dutzenden von verschiedenen Kliniken und Gebäuden, mit über 90'000 Angestellten. So gross, dass das ein eigener Staddteil ist.
Wie schon im Live-Thread versprochen, möchte ich euch die Fotos, die dabei entstanden sind, nicht vorenthalten.
Die Sache mit dem Parkplatz war dann gut ausgeschlidert. 26'000 Parkplätze und mehrere Hallen erlauben natürlich, dass mehrere Events gleichzeitig stattfinden können.

Und schon stehe ich vor dem riesigen Stadion. Ich bin ja oft bei NHL-Spielen zu Gast, aber selbst beim Eishockey sind die grössten Stadien 3x kleiner, als das Reliant Stadium.

Das Ticket hatte ich an der Südseite des Stadions abzuholen, das ist praktischerweise die Seite, welche meinem Parkplatz zugewandt ist. Es würde ewig dauern, um das Stadion herumgehen zu müssen. Die Ticketausgabe klappt problemlos, das Prozedere bin ich mir schon von den Heimspielen meiner Florida Panthers gewohnt. Man zeigt die zu Hause ausgedruckte Kaufquittung, legt eine ID und die zum Kauf benutzte Kreditkarte vor, unterschreibt einen Zettel und bekommt dann die Tickets ausgehändigt. Eine kurze Taschenkontrolle später begegne ich schon dem ersten Merchandise-Stand. Die Auswahl ist nicht besser, als wenn Disney On Ice hierzulande Gast ist und ich beschliesse, mir erstmal nur ein Programmheft für $15 zu kaufen.

Vielleicht sieht's ja drinnen besser aus und überhaupt bin ich schon gespannt auf das riesige Stadion. Über Rolltreppen geht's erstmal draussen ein Stück aufwärts, bevor ich meinen Platz suchen kann.

Nicht wahnsinnig schöne Architektur drinnen, aber riesige Wandelgänge. Davon können wir in Schweizer Stadien nur träumen.

Ich bin früh dran, also hab ich da noch Zeit, um den Merchandise-Ständen nachzugehen. Mir fällt auf, dass die Preise in etwa gleich sind, wie wenn DOI in der Schweiz zu Gast ist.

Ich entschiede mich dann für das Simba-Plüschi für $20. Es gehört ja nicht so zum guten Ton, mit leeren Händen wieder rauszugehen. The Lion King ist zudem auch Bestandteil des heutigen Programms, was mich natürlich ungemein freut. Doch bevor ich zu Circle of Life und Can You Feel The Love Tonight Simba und Nala beim Eislaufen zusehen kann, muss ich jetzt endlich mal meinen Platz finden.
Und die Platzorganisation war dann tatsächlich irgendwie chaotisch. Nichts war klar angeschrieben und die CMs diskutierten miteinander, wo nun mein Platz sein könnte. Schliesslich fand man ihn dann doch noch. Zweitvorderste Reihe, wie beim Kauf auf dem Sitzplan ausgewählt.

Und wer sich jetzt wundert, ob da tatsächlich 70'000 Gäste erwartet wurden: Nein, natürlich nicht. Von dem Footballfeld wurde lediglich eine Endzone für Disney On Ice hergerichtet. Die wahren Ausmasse des Stadions bleiben also verborgen und wir sehen nur einen Bruchteil davon:
Immerhin hat's Tische an den vorderen Plätzen. Da kann man so richtig amerikanisch ungesunde Sachen während der Show zu sich nehmen.

Fast schon wie ein Korrespondentenplatz kommt mir mein Platz vor. Mit Programm und Simba-Plüschi auf dem Tisch warte ich gespannt auf die vier Akte, die da kommen sollen.

Überpünktlich geht's dann auch los. Donald, Mickey, Minnie und Goofy begrüssen uns und nehmen uns auf ihre zauberhafte Reise durch afrikanische Savannen, unter das Meer, nach Hawaii und über die Dächer von London mit.

Nun aber Augen auf für den ersten Teil. Los geht es mit The Lion King. Da werden grosse Kindheitserinnerungen wach. 3 Songs werden gespielt - übrigens in angenehmer Lautstärke und guter Soundqualität - und ich merke, dass das Publikum hier in den USA viel mehr mitgeht mit den Songs und der Story. Zu Hakuna Matata, Circle of Life und Can You Feel The Love Tonight sehe ich mit einem grossen Lächeln im Gesicht Simba, Nala, Rafiki und Co. zu.

Egal, das fehlende Bühnenbild wurde durch die Performances der Characters entschädigt. Wirklich eine Freude, zu den bekannten Songs meine Lieblinge zu sehen.

Eine wirklich zauberhafte Disney-Reise ging damit zu Ende - viel zu kurz waren die 2 Stunden. Fazit: Dank den englischen Songs und dem begeisterungsfähigen Publikum gefällt mir Disney On Ice in den USA sogar noch besser, als hier. Die Merchandisingpreise sind zwar auch dort überhöht, aber dennoch lohnt es sich immer wieder, bei Disney On Ice dabei zu sein.
Aus dem Stadion geht es über riesige Rampen auf den riesigen Parkplatz. So liebe ich das - top ausgebaute Infrastrukturen mit ausreichend Platz. Das Publikum muss rasch abfliessen können, denn an dem Tag standen noch zwei weitere Aufführungen auf dem Programm. Disney On Ice war übrigens volle 3 Tage in Houston zu Gast.
